There once was a farmer who everyday went to the village to sell his goods. One day he stayed later than usual, and was afraid he wouldn't make it home before sunset. The lady that ran the booth next to him, listened to his dilemma and told him about a shortcut that ran through forest by a monastery. The farmer listened to her instructions and thanked her for her help. Part way through the forest he heard the most beautiful sound, he had ever heard in his life. He stopped his wagon and listen to the sound. An hour quickly passed before he realized the sun was setting and he had to hurry home.
The next day he was working in his garden, but all he could think about was that sound. A week passed and he couldn't get it out of his head. His crops were suffering from his lack of attention. Finally he decided he had to find out the source of the most beautiful sound. He once again traveled back in to the forest, when he got to the spot where he first he had heard the sound that now haunted him. Ignoring brambles and tree limbs, he braved a path through the forest the sound enticingly stringing him along. After 3 hours of travel he broke through the forest edge and before him stood a massive monastery. The most beautiful sound came from within.
Without hesitation, the farmer walked up the path to the church, knocked on the huge double doors that stood before him. An aged monk answered the door."Yes, my son may I help you?"
"Yes, father. A week ago I had passed by and heard the most beautiful sound. Ever since all I can think about is that sound. I most know what it is."
"Please come in." The farmer followed the monk into the church.
"Now the origin of the sound is a secret and only monks are allowed to what it is."
"Then I'll become a monk." the farmer told him.
The monk let out a chuckle. "It's not that easy son. You must give up all your worldly possessions. Then must must spend three years studying and praying. Then only if the high one accepts you, can you become a monk."
"Father I'm willing to do all of that. To find out the origin of the most beautiful sound."
So the farmer went back home sold his farm and all of his possessions. He traveled back to the church, don the robes of a monk. He spent three years in isolation studying the word of God and praying. Finally after 3 years, he took the test required of all monks. To his delight he passed. "Now, my child it is time to to reveal the most beautiful sound"
He followed the monk up 300 flights of stairs the church's highest tower. They came to a door made out of pure bronze embedded with rubies. The monk unlocked the door. behind was a long hallway, which ended in a door made out of pure silver. embedded with emeralds. Behind it was another long hallway, ending in a door made out of pure gold embedded with diamonds. The monk unlocked the door. Behind it was the source of the most beautiful sound.
